As “Fullmove” suggests, my goal is to get you moving ‘fully’, which has a different meaning for each patient. I believe in treating you, the individual, who happens to have a painful condition. I do this by listening carefully, with the aim of understanding what you are going through, then creating a plan tailored to your specific needs and working towards your goals so you can start living your life to your fullest again.

About Martin Rooke
Martin has decades of experience, after graduating from the British School of Osteopathy in 1984. He worked in the UK and New Zealand before making Wellington his home in 1997 when he set up his own practice—‘Newtown Osteopathy’. In 2008, he began work on an idea to promote back health—a uniquely self-adjusting lumbar support for driving, which he called Morfit®. In 2011 he moved into Wellington city, splitting his time between osteopathy and growing Morfit as a company.
Martin loves keeping up with the ever-evolving field of musculoskeletal health, attending conferences and workshops with multi-disciplinary health practitioners. He enjoys learning new approaches in evidence-based advancements in medicine. Martin is a member of Osteopaths New Zealand, the New Zealand Pain Society and is registered with the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand.
Outside of work, Martin loves being active. He enjoys water sports, mountain biking and walking the family’s dogs.
What to expect as a patient
The Rehab Plan
I'll give you a clear picture of what's happening, so you really understand what your health problem is, and what we need to do together to make you feel better. We'll set realistic goals and make sure you're on board with the rehab plan. You will be the ‘Manager’ with me as the ‘Director’ helping you on your way. If you have any worries or concerns, we'll talk about them too. With teamwork and communication, we'll guide you towards your individual goals, no matter how big or small they may be.
The Type of Therapy
Your treatment will start with hands-on therapy from me to help your body heal. I will teach you how you can help yourself, like doing exercises, adjusting your posture, changing work habits and possibly learning how to move efficiently. For long-standing conditions, I will share with you the current understandings of how pain works and guide you to manage and reduce your pain.
Your first visit
We aim to make all patients feel comfortable, welcomed, and well-cared for.
Case History
First, we will have a chat so I can learn more about your current problem, past medical history, and any other health matters.
Examination
I’ll ask if you are okay undressing enough that we can see the area of concern. This allows me to see important details like local swelling and to assess changes in skin, sensation, or muscle shape—which give valuable insights into your condition. However, if undressing makes you uncomfortable, there are shorts and singlets available to borrow, or you can bring your own. Your comfort and well-being is my top priority.
The examination generally starts with you standing and moving in various ways to help me see how you move. Next, I'll gently assess the areas of concern. If needed, I will carry out specific tests and check your neurological, circulatory, and respiratory systems.
Diagnosis
After completing the examination, I'll explain my findings with you in plain language and discuss your treatment options. Once we've agreed on a plan, we'll begin. Sometimes, I might refer you for further tests like x-rays, ultrasound, or blood tests to help me understand your condition better.

Morfit automatically fits everyone perfectly.
My interest in making car seats more comfortable started after a personal experience. In my twenties I drove all day from London to Scotland in a Mini. When I tried to get out of the car, for the first time ever, I had severe back pain and couldn't stand up straight. This sparked my interest in improving the ergonomic fit of car seats.
Like many people I thought back pain would be associated with bending and lifting, not simply driving. Now I realised just how uncomfortable a car seat could be. My solution was to remove the car seat cover and experiment until I found the right amount of extra padding to suit my back. This seat now fitted me like a glove, so I never had back pain driving my Mini again.
I began paying more attention to patients who had back pain while driving. My homemade solution is impractical for most people, and despite the growing variety of available devices, I couldn't find one that worked and fit really well.
The challenge is that people and vehicle seats come in many shapes and sizes. Each driver needs a support that can self-adjust to fit them perfectly. After many ideas, the concept of Morfit® emerged as the solution. I teamed up with industrial designer Jenny Keate, who helped refine my prototypes. Together, we ran a user trial, and the results exceeded our expectations. Participants reported greater pain relief compared to using pain-killing drugs.
We launched Morfit in New Zealand and since then have developed markets in Australia, North America, Britain, and the EU.
We founded Morfit with the aim of improving lives. In today's fast-paced world, we often overlook ergonomic issues until they become problematic. But getting the basics right can truly make a world of difference to our lives.
